Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do you accept insurance?

The Speech Path is considered an “out-of-network” provider. This means that we do not bill your insurance or receive any reimbursement from your insurance company. We do, however, provide you with invoices (i.e., “superbills”) detailing the diagnosis and procedure code used for the services provided. You may submit these invoices to your insurance provider for out-of-network reimbursement if allowable by your plan. Some plans reimburse the complete cost or the majority of the cost of services, so we recommend contacting your insurance company to learn more about your out-of-network benefits. You may provide your insurance company with the following CPT codes to determine specific coverage details:

92523: Evaluation of speech and language

92522: Evaluation of speech sound production

92507: Treatment of speech, language, voice, communication (individual)

92508: Treatment of speech, language, voice, communication (group)

    97550 and 97551: Caregiver training/coaching (individual)

    97552: Caregiver training/coaching (group)

  • What should I expect during a speech-language pathology evaluation?

Our pediatric speech and language evaluations may involve a standardized test, play-based observation, and caregiver interview. Our adult speech and language evaluations may involve standardized or informal assessment and a client interview. The evaluation will be completed in your home or via telehealth. We will discuss preliminary results and recommendations for therapy at the end of the evaluation, and you will be provided with a formal report within 2 weeks of the evaluation date. Referrals to other professionals may be made if services aside from speech-language pathology are indicated.

  • What should I expect in speech therapy?

Your clinician will work with you to develop functional and meaningful goals for you or your child. We will work to achieve these goals through a variety of play-based (for pediatric clients), role-play, or structured activities. Data is taken during each session to track progress towards established goals. Goals may be advanced or modified over the course of treatment as necessary. Homework is provided at the end of each session to support continued progress.

  • How long will I or my child need speech therapy?

The duration of speech therapy varies depending on individual needs, goals, and progess. After an initial evaluation, we’ll work together to create a personalized treatment plan tailored to you or your child’s specific challenges and strengths. Throughout the plan of care, we’ll continuously assess progress and make adjustments as needed to ensure optimal results.

  • What is the parent/caregiver's role in speech therapy?

Parents and caregivers are highly encouraged to participate in therapy sessions! You know your child best and spend more time with them than a clinician possibly could. Getting involved in your child’s therapy is a great way to help your child practice their skills at home and achieve their full communicative potential. In fact, research indicates that involving parents and caregivers in treatment leads to greater carryover and generalization of speech and language skills learned in therapy.

  • Do you offer telehealth and in-person appointments?

Yes, we provide both telehealth and in-person services. Telehealth services are available to individuals across California. In-person services are available in and around San Francisco.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

All cancellation and rescheduling requests must be submitted via phone or email 48 hours prior to the scheduled appointment. Appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours notice or without any notice will be charged $100.

  • Do you offer screenings?

Yes, our team is available to offer screenings at daycares and private schools. Screenings are abbreviated evaluations used to determine whether a child’s speech and language skills are age-appropriate or if they may benefit from a comprehensive speech-language evaluation.
